Question:

Some of the scholars of the Sunnah praise the people of innovation, so should we boycott this scholar?

Answer:

Firstly, no scholar of the Sunnah, past or present, would praise the people of innovation with general praise, ever. This is not from the way of those who follow the path of the Salaf. And if it is affirmed that the scholar who has his status and da’wah praises them with general praise, then we say that this is wrong and we don’t accept it from him. However, we do not make Tabdee’ (attribute him as an innovator) to him as long as he continues to be steadfast upon the foundations of the blessed Da’watus Salafiyyah, upon the blessed methodology of the Salaf. We do not make Tabdee’ of him as long as he does not persist with this and insists upon it and believes it to be from the manhaj, for this will remove him from the Sunnah by his adhering to the bid’ah (innovation).

Secondly, sometimes there may be praise from a Sunni to an innovator with specific praise, for example, because an Ash’aree refuted a Raadifhee and clarified the offense of the Raafidhah. So we say that this person was correct, thank Allaah for his good in this specific praise, not a general praise. Yes.
