Provenance: This folio was in possession of a private collection of a professor in California in the 60s (anonymous) and then sold at an estate sale.

Research Notes:  The Mamluks were former elite soliders of the Ayyubids who ruled Egypt and Syria from 648H/1250CE to 922H/1516-17 CE (James, 1988, pg. 27). | It appears that this script is a Naskhi- Muhaqqaq Khafif script due to its proportioning of the descenders (عراقات’araqaat) of the ن. Likewise, the لا (Laam-Alif Muhaqqaqah). (Gacek, 2012, pg. 139-140; 160-162). The script in this folio is similar to that of a 14th/15th century Muhaqqaq Mamluk Qur’an sold at a Christie’s auction (Sale # 14217, Lot 27- 14 ff. and sold for $9,898.5 on April 27, 2017 in London). It’s also similar in appearance to a Naskh script from a 14th/15th century Mamluk Qur’aan sold at a Christie’s auction (Sale #7871, Lot 179- 310 ff. and sold for $ 5,279 on October 5, 2010 in London).
