Provenance: This manuscript was formerly in Christie’s Arts & Textiles of the Islamic & Indian Worlds; Sale # 12283, Oct. 21, 2016 with estimate of $5,278 to $7,917.

Research Notes: A copy of Mughni min al Usul signed by Ahmad bin Amir Dawud bin Ibrahim on 23 Rab’ee 749H (21 June 1348CE) sold at Christie’s (Sale 10428, Lot 265 on April 24, 2015 for $ 4,172). The book was published first in 1982/1403H by Umm al Quraa university in Makkah. The Muhaqqiq, Dr. Muhammad Madhhar Baqa, noted (pg. 17 -21) that there were 6 manuscripts used for this print: (1) The Asl was the copy of Al Azhar, completed 736H and unsigned (Al-Azhar 4494/116) (2) The Princeton manuscript completed and signed by Bilaal bin Ahmad al Hanafi in 771H in the Yahuda Collection (#3713), (3) A manuscript with an unknown date/scribe in the Yahuda collection at the Princeton Library (#35), (4) Al-Azhar library (42229/1570) dated 800H and signed by Muhammad bin ‘Abdullah al Masri At-Talhawi, (5) Another copy at the Al-Azhar Library (#1613) is dated 859H and scribed by Ibrahim bin Hasan bin Fakhruddeen Al Astaraabadi, (6) another manuscript in the Princeton Library (#3865) dated 888H and written by Shaykh Muhiyyudeen Al-Qunawi
