Description: European Laid paper with Trelune watermark | Fol. 1a appears to have an explanation of Taqreeb al-Ma’mool fi Tarteeb an-Nuzool of Burhaanuddeen Ibraheem bin ‘Umar al Ja’bari’ (d. 732H). Fol. 3 is a biography of Imaam Ash-Shaatibi. Fol. 4a contains a poem for easy memorization of ‘ilm al Qira’aat, a common occurrance in the explanations of ash-Shaatibiyyah. | The paper is well-worn and exhibits some areas of water damage and wormholes, but no loss of text | Black ink with Rubrication| The cover is original leather with flap and is quite worn, blind tooled ornamentation. | There are no colophons indicating the date or scribe. It’s difficult to assess the date based solely on the Trelune watermark, but we can say for sure that it’s no earlier than the 10th century Hijri as it cites Imaam As-Suyooti on Fol. 2b, who died in 911H.

Incipit: بَدَأْتُ بِبِسْمِ اْللهُ فيِ النَّظْمِ أوَّلاَ

Explicit: فَتًى كَانَ لِلإِنْصَافِ وَالْحِلْمِ مَعْقِلَا

Provenance: Private Family Collection from Morocco

Research Notes: There are many manuscripts of Harz al Amaani (ash-Shaatibiyyah). It has been published and transmitted and explained numerous times since Imaam ash-Shaatibi authored this monumental work in Tajweed.
