Biography: He was a Maaliki Faqeeh who lead the Maalikiyyah in his time. He was also a student and in-law of Khalil bin Ishaaq Al-Jundi (Ref: Al-A’laam of Az-Zirkili 2/76)

Provenance: A note on a colophon mentions that this manuscript was purchased by Al-Mubarak (?) bin Ahmad Ar-Ramali with the price of [effaced] in the year 958H (1551CE).
Research Notes: The scribe notes that this manuscript was written in Sijlimaas. Fol. 1b contains the Contains the explanation of Abul Barakaat Muhammad bin Abil Barakaat bin Abi Yahya At-Tilmasaani At-Tali on the Khutbah of Mukhtassar Khali who refers to Abul Jood al-Misri speaking Bahraam’s efforts in explaning Mukhtassar Khalil. This story [Ref: Nayl Al Ibtihaaj bi Tatreez ad-Deebaaj of Ahmad Baba At-Timbukti, 1/141] is the reason why he decided to dedicate effort to authenticate and check this work as was done with the Mudawwanah, An-Nawaadir, and the works of Ibn Yunus al-Lakhmi, and Ibn Abdis Salaam, etc. (Fol. 2a). He mentions that he read the Mukhtassar to some of the notable scholars in the span of three years while they gave the Mukhtassar the highest attention and they took the knowledge of it from the scholars before them. He continues to say that there was a request to check the work using the two explanations (the Kabeer and Sagheer) and ensuring the work is authenticated. He cites that this copy was checked by Shaykh Ahmad bin Yunus, one of the Fuqaha of [unreadable], who had his own copy of Sharh al Kabeer and said that whoever does not write this from your copy will lament from what he has lost in his Fiqh. The scribe continued to mention that the work was checked with the work of Ibnul Furat and bin Marzouq al-Mashroufi and that he read the Mukhtassar to Sulayman al Buzaydi- who found errors with Ibnul Furat|
Bahraam Ad-Dameeri had three explanations of Mukhtassar al-Khalil: 1) Sharh al Kabeer, 2) Sharh al-Wasat (or Al Awsat or Al-Waseet) & 3) Sharh al-As-Sagheer. The most famous and widespread of his explanations is Sharh al-Wasat.
Among the manuscripts of this work: 1) Khuzaanah al-Qarawiyeen in Fez dated 1214H; 2) Jaami’ Al-A’dham in Algeria dated 962H (Mu’jam Tarikh at-Turath al Islami fi Maktabat al ‘Alam, 1/745); 3) Ziwayah ash-Shaykh Hussayn dated 1072H & 4) a copy dated 1046H; The published copy with the Tahqeeq of Dr. Haafidh bin ‘Abdur-Rahmaan Khayr (1431H/2010H-Dubai, UAE) used several copies: 5) Al-Khuzaanah al Husayniyyah in Ribaat; 6) a copy in Al-Azhariyyah; 7) a copy in the Najeebawaih Center.
