Research Notes: The ‘Ulemaa have noted that the ascription of Al-Fiqh Al-Akbar to Abu Haneefah is questionable although it is popularly ascribed to him among the Ahnaaf. Abu Haneefah was known to hold a position of Irjaa’ in Eemaan by stating explicitly (as appears in this manuscript) that Eemaan does not increase or decrease. This is the ‘Aqeedah of the Ahnaaf, according to Shaykh Muhammad Naasiruddeen al-Albaanee: from the first of them to the last of them. The work reaches us by way of Abil Mutee’ Al-Hakam bin ‘Abdillaah Al-Balkhi (Al-‘Uluw of Adh-Dhahabi, pg 134). In regards to the Sifaat, Ibn Taymiyyah recorded that it is mentioned in the book ascribed to him (Al-Fiqh al-Akbar) and cited some of these statement in support of the Aqeedah of Ahlis Sunnah in Sifaat (Fatawa al Hamawiyyah, pg 319-321; dar’ at-Ta’aarudh al Aql wan Naql 6/263; Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 5/46)
