Research Notes:  The script of this folio is closely matched to the New Style Abbassi (NS.III) as classified by Deroche (1992, p.136). The ظ in ظالمين is very similar to Early Abbassi D.VB., but is found in the NS.III of some Qur’ans (ex. The Palmero Qur’an Quires in the Khalili Collection: QUR261). The vertical format might give some indication that this folio is roughly around the 10th century given comparable folios in various collections (Deroche, 1992, p. 134). The vertical format in this script on parchment appears to be rarer than the horizontal format in this time period. While early Hijazi Qur’an’s of the 7th and 8th centuries were written in vertical formats, the horizontal format gained prominence in the mid-late 8th century until the 11th century. Around the early part of the 10th century, there were examples of the vertical format used on parchments (BnF: arabe.342)
