Biography: (The Raawi) He was the Maaliki Imaam of North Africa: Abu Sa’eed ‘Abdus Salaam bin Habeeb bin Hasaan bin Hilaal bin Bakkaar bin Rabee’ah bin ‘Abdullah at-Tanookhi, originally Al-Himsi known as Sahnoon (d.240H). He was the Qaadhi of Qayrawan. He heard from Sufyaan bin ‘Uyaynah, Abdur Rahman ibnul Qasim, Al-Waleed bin Muslim, Ibn Wahb, Wakee’ bin Jarrah, and many others. (Siyar A’laam an-Nubalaa 12/64)

Incipit: قلت: أرأيت إن اشترى ثيابا مطوية ولم ينشرها ولم توصف له أيكون هذا بيعا فاسدا في قول مالك لأنه لم ينشر الثياب ولم توصف له
Explicit: قال ابن القاسم: وإنما الثمار تفسير مني وما ذكرت لك من بعد الثمار عن مشتريها إذا كانت بإفريقية وما أشبهها فلم أسمعه من مالك وإنما هو تفسير مني سحنون إلا أن يكون الثمر يابسا.

Asad bin Al Furat, the one who conquered Sicily, had traveled to Iraq and learned about the Hanafi Fiqh through one of Imaam Abu Haneefah’s students. He wanted to achieve the same with Imaam Maalik, so he traveled to meet Imaam Malik’s students and he was only satisfied with Imaam ‘Abdur-Rahman Ibn Al-Qaasim Al-‘Utaqi. He copied down the Masaa’il as stated by Ibnul Qaasim, but there were some issues with the answers. Ibnul Furaat’s Asadiyyah reached Sahnoon bin Sa’eed at-Tanookhi who traveled to Egypt and rewrote the book with Ibnul Qaasim- who updated the answers. Sahnoon’s Mudawwanah from the Riwaayah of Ibnul Qaasim became more famous and widespread than Asad bin Al-Furat’s Assadiyyah with the Riwayah of Ibnul Qaasim. |
