Provenance: This manuscript was owned by Ameer ‘Abdul-Qaadir bin Muhiyyuddin Al-Husayni Al-Jazaa’iri and his son Muhammad. There is an ownership note on Recto of Fol. 1 (Title Page): تملكه الفقير محمد بن عبد القادر بن محي الدين الحسيني “Owned by the Faqeer, Muhammad bin ‘Abdul-Qaadir bin Muhiyyuddin Al-Husayni”. Ameer ‘Abdul-Qaadir Al-Jazaa’iri was a famous religious leader and Mujaahid that led the fight against the French colonialists in Algeria. He traces his lineage back to Husayn bin ‘Ali رضي الله عنه as ‘Abdur-Razzak Al-Maydani Ad-Dimashqi documents in his Hilyatul Bashar fi Tarikh Al-Qarn ath-Thaalith ‘Ashar (pg. 884 – 886). He was born 1222H (1808 CE). He studied Fiqh from his father and then traveled to seek knowledge from scholars. He traveled with his father to Makkah, Madeenah, then Shaam and spent time there. He traveled to Baghdad wherein he “wore the cloak of the Qaadiriyyah Sufis and then continued his travels through the Ottoman lands.

His father gave him the nickname “Ameer Al-Mu’mineen”, people rallied behind him and there started a war between him and the French invaders. He famously made peace between the Christians and Druze of Damascus preventing bloodshed. This act was recognized globally, and he received gifts from Abraham Lincoln in commemoration. | There’s a note on the recto of Fol. 1 (title page) that states: اطلع على هذا الكتاب المبارك الفقير محمد بن جعفر الكتاني بدمشق المحروسة بمنزل سيدي الامير محمد بن سيدي الامير عبد القادر بن محي الدين الحسيني في ليلة النصف من شعبان عام اربعين وثلاثماية والف ه “This blessed book was checked by the Faqeer Muhammad bin Ja’far al-Kitaani in Damascus Al-Mahroosah in the house of Sidi Al-Ameer Muhammad bin Sidi Al-Ameer ‘Abdul-Qaadir bin Muhiyyuddin Al-Husayni on the night of the middle of Sha’ban in the year 1340H” (corresponding to: April 12, 1922). Muhammad bin Ja’far Al-Kitaani is a famous Moroccan Historian and scholar of Hadith who was born in Fez and died there. He traveled to the Hijaz twice and then migrated with his family to Madeenah in 1332H until 1338 Hijri when he moved to Damascus until 1345H whereafter he returned to Morocco. He has roughly 60 books. (Al-I’laam, 6/72). There’s another note on modern paper written in pencil and a calendar page from 1941 between the pages.
